HighwayGuard™ approved to accelerate Utah’s road safety

The HighwayGuard™ MASH 16 TL-3 and TL-4 compliant portable steel barrier has been given the green light for use in both standard and lower deflection configurations throughout the US state of Utah.

Known as the Beehive State, Utah is widely regarded as one of the most progressive states in the US when it comes to road safety. Less than a decade ago, Utah lowered its driving under the influence limit to the lowest in the USA; a move that has helped to reduce fatal and critical incidents on the state’s 6,000-mile (9,700 kilometres) road network. The approval of HighwayGuard™ will further protect drivers, passengers, and road workers, with approval enabling specification on all road types across Utah.

HighwayGuard™’s MASH 16 TL-3 and TL-4 certification made the system an attractive choice, as Utah’s authorities sought a barrier capable of withstanding the size and weight of the many larger vehicles found in the landlocked state. With its renowned red rock canyons, ski resorts, forests, and national parks, Utah frequently sees road trippers in motorhomes and large SUVs on its roads. The impressive certification means the barrier can resist penetration from impacting vehicles of up to 10,000 kg, reducing safety risks for road occupants and those working in live construction zones.

HighwayGuard™ has a much smaller working width than other barriers, allowing greater space in the work area while minimising disruption to road users. Utah’s extreme weather conditions, including stifling hot summers and icy winters, often complicate driving conditions. HighwayGuard™’s durable design and sturdy components allow the barrier to be effective in all conditions, enhancing road safety on Utah’s roads 365 days a year.

Approval in Utah continues HighwayGuard™’s growing footprint in North America and Australasia, providing unmatched protection and peace of mind for road users and highway workers alike. Visit our everexpanding approvals map to find out more.
